start drawing, i cant stress that one enough, draw in different styles, black and white, color, all that stuff. Then you really need to go around to every shop in your area and try for an apprenticeship. please dont try and tattoo with an ebay gun or anything like that before your apprentice, youll pay double for a piece of crap, Tattooing isnt something you can really cut corners on and the biggest thing is being able to show the person who might be teaching you that your responsible and would be a good investment for him. theres you and about 100 other kids out there that want to be tattoo artists, you gotta prove your better then the rest and thats not an easy thing to do. I got into the business through my shop because i was a repeat customer who designed all my own work, i studied long and hard, im in college for art and design (its not necessary but i want to be the best) and i put alot of hours in at my shop, just learning not even tattooing yet, ive been an apprentice since i turned 18, its going to be three years next month, i just started tattooing people now. PS you really want to impress a shop, study up on sterile procedures, blood borne pathogens, and all that stuff, like i said they look for a safe responsible person!!!
More info, this advice came from my teacher, Put a pencil through a tattoo machine, instead of a needle, and get used to the weight of the machine
